The Lighthouse, a 2019 supernatural / psychological horror film directed by Robert Eggers (The Witch) about a pair of lighthouse keepers losing their respective minds on an isolated island, is getting a Japanese theatrical release in July, and as a bonus benefit Japanese theater-goers will receive a short synopsis manga of the film illustrated by horror manga legend Junji Ito that will be included with their theater pamphlets.
A pair of preview pages (above) have been published for the manga, and Junji Ito also commented on the film, praising its performances and the intensity of its gloomy atmosphere. Ito noted that in his synopsis manga, he wanted to reproduce the film's use of light and shadow.
The Lighthouse is distributed by A24 Films, who describe the story of the film as follows:
From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror masterpiece The Witch, comes this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
The Lighthouse hits theaters in Japan beginning on July 09, 2021. Why'd ya spill yer beans?
