While video games may be a relatively new technology in the grand scheme of things, one of the biggest players in the industry is actually older than some countries. Nintendo has a rich history dating back to 1889, where it started out as a small playing card company (of which it still produces) in Kyoto, to the biggest company in Japan, and by far one of the most recognizable around the world. To celebrate the legacy of the company, Nintendo will be opening a gallery on the site of its old Uji Ogura Plant in Kyoto.

The Nintendo Uji Ogura Plant opened in 1969 to manufacture Nintendo's classic Hanafuda cards and regular playing cards. The plant also became one of Japan's support centers for product repairs. The operations of the plant were moved to a new Uji-based plant in November 2016 and ideas on how to use the site were being discussed since then.
Nintendo decided to make the site into a museum after Uji City had announced plans to redevelop the area around the local Ogura Train Station. Nintendo will redevelop the plant into the tentatively named Nintendo Gallery, with a scheduled opening sometime in the fiscal year 2023, which is set to end in March 2024, and will "showcase the many products Nintendo has launched over its history."
